Traumwind - Texteditor followup:

DaanSystems |ped| is a nifty text editor written in Perl which makes it very portable. It's console based. It has only one dependency: Term::ReadKey that most Perl installations have.
|ped| has some nice features like automatic resizing when the terminal window is resized, DOS/UNIX lineending support, a search function and the backspace and del key will work properly
