legally blind
(Sunday 8th February 2004)

hohum... I'm still all undecided if I should actually talk about it here or not, so I guess I'll just mention it. Yesterday the final decission of the 'Versorgungsamt' here in Bavaria arrived: I am now considered legally blind, which entitles me for some extra money each month. It's been a long struggle to get here, partwise hindered by my pride and partwise by getting it accepted.
1. A person is considered blind if he/she sees less than 1 of 50 on the better eye (2% vision)
2. Alternatively if some other vision imparement leads to conditions comparable to 1. the person is also considered blind.

Well, in my case it's point 2. , thank God. I can still read rather well, although judging colors pose a real problems at times. But put me in a crowded street and I'm completly lost. I only savely get to work each day and home each nicht because I know the way so well.

At least now I have some benefits from that ;)
