was designed to promote serendipitous surfing: finding the unexpected in the 3,083,324,652 web pages indexed by Google. Directed Google searches return pages most relevant to your search term, based on the pages' popularity on the Web. You may never see some of the pages way down the list that are relevant or interesting, but off the beaten path.

So we give you a little boost. We "seed" your search with another word, chosen at random, and this accidental encounter results in pages you may have overlooked.

I find the concept of this 'seeding' a query string with random words very intriguing... It weakens one of the main down-points I have with keyword-searching: keywords require you to exactly know what you are looking for, but by the same rule also omit the results that might be of interest to you, but do not contain those exact words...
And by adding random words to a given exact keyword query, you suddenly also get results you might not have explicitly searched for, but that are of interest to you
