Here's one for the Mac-heads in my audience... My PowerBook G4/400 (TiBook) seems to have problems mounting ordinary CD-ROMs. The slot-in drive works, I can watch DVDs alright. But when I insert a nortmal (data-)CD-ROM, I only get some drive activity and then nothing... shouldn't a disk icon appear on my desktop?
How can I diagnose what's happening? Some shell magic, whatever...
[Update:] ok, I got it nailed, almost. It
won't mount CD-Rs, for whatever reason. Almost any silver CD or DVD I tried worked after at most two tries... well, another good reason why I bought that
