It is not the skill, it's the vision that counts
(Sunday 18th April 2004)

I was planning a longer follow-up on my 'Making Of' piece detailing some of the thoughts that boiled up while writing it. It would have talked at leangth about why some Artwort is very skillfull but lacks appeal and other rather crude works are so much stronger or more appealing.

Well, it boils down to this: skill and technique are only ever tools of an artist. A piece of artwork can involve hours or days of very highly skillfull work, and still be lacking. And then there are those 'quick comps' that carry so much power...

A visionary piece of work executed with little skill will be less than it could be, but a skillfull piece without a vision will be nothing.
