My own prison
(Thursday 2nd January 2003)

As you might have guessed I don't really give much about new-year and similar celebrations. And as a result I don't care for resolutions. But there was one thing that made me think.

Watching the 'Making of Fellowship of the Ring' there was Peter Jackson describing how he overcomes times of hardship and exaution... "I sit back and ask myself: is there anything else I'd rather do? And the answer is always: No, definetly not."

Well, what a lucky guy, methinks. Doing exactly the one thing one loves to do most is certainly a very strong source of motivation and energy.

Those are the two most lacking things for me, mostly. Real motivation and the energy it bring.

Quotes like the one above can be very detrimental - discouraging - for me. Because when I usually try and ask myself that question the answer is ... 'well, maybe...'

Only problem is a) I don't feel I could change the situation, and b) I'm mostly so desillusioned, I couldn't name a thing I'd rather do, actually.

But I guess that's my own prison there. 'I can't shake this blues, and I'm too down to even try...'

No, not down. Just devoid of real enthusiasm (Motivation).

But with Motivation I guess it's the same as with Creativity. Both are muscles. The more you use them, the more energy they have.
