The thing about thunderstorms
2005-8-8
We've been having some quite impressive thunderstorms here lately. And I'm not only taliking about the weather kind. What I find interesting is the way people relate to the different stages of such a thunderstorm. I think it tells a lot about the person't outlook on life.
Here's the three destinct phases of such a storm:
- before the storm - something is brewing
- the storm has broken loose - lightining stgrikes and thunder clashes
- the storm has passed - everything is wet
Now please take some time to reflect on each of these phases. Imagine a storm brewing, how it break out, rages, and how it feels when it's over. Concntrate on the feelings and emotions each phase brings for you. Anxiety, fear, joy... You might want to remember how it was for you as a child.
Below I will list the associations for each phase that I have. Please do take the time to make your own list before you read mine.
Here we go, my very personal list of associations for each phase:
- a storm is brewing.
Anxienty, aggression build and becomes unbearable. Flies come into the house and get ever more annoying. Headache builds up. I wish it was all over and done already. - the storm breaks loose, thunder and lightning, rain.
Axillaration, joy. With each lightning strike I wait for the thunder and cheer it on. I count the seconds between lightining and thunderclap. The shorter the better. I feel release. I feel alive. I am aware of the physical threat of lightning striking or the storm tearing down trees. Still I am cheerfull. Pent up energy discharging. - the storm is over.
I feel exausted. Tiered. Damage assesment. Cleaning up the worst, leaving the rest for later. Getting things dry again. Is this the last of it? Is there more to come? I might feel cheatet if the storm was short, maybe too short.
